Aqualung Slingshot Fin

I recently purchased a pair of Aqualung Slingshot fins. I have several different sets of fins but have always been a die hard Blade fan. I kinda hesitated on the slingshot thinking they were just another gadgety product with no benefit.  After using them I have to say I am impressed. They are really great especially if you are having to chase students. The foot pocket is very comfortable and not to rigid.  The different settings make them great for easy dives or for hard currents. They are easy on the legs, to me, even at the tightest setting. It was even easy to change the setting underwater with gloves. I have used them on a few regular dives with students and on some drysuit dives. They were still powerful with my drysuit. Plus you’ve gotta like the “mermaids don’t like competition video”!

Why you should Rock a Rubber Suit!

If you are simply diving for pleasure and not intending on exposing yourself to any toxic waste you should still be aware of the existence of vulcanized rubber suits, particularly those with the Swedish Viking brand and specifically their old Sport and new ProVSN drysuits.

Tracking & Marketing All In One With Scubaocity

One of the toughest things in any business is ensuring you are tracking what a customer wants to do and when. This is even more important in the dive business when a customer calls or emails and wants to reserve a spot for a boat trip, training session, or dive travel. How do you keep track of all this information? You’d be surprised how many are still doing this the old fashion way, with pencil and paper. This method of customer tracking requires a big eraser if the customer needs to be moved or deleted. Not only is it hard to move customers around, but also this type of data tracking tends to foster mistakes by loosing customer information, miss-booking reservations, or worst yet not even getting the reservation on that piece of paper to begin with. And to make matters worse this information is the only source of that [...]

Liquid Image Camera Review

Well, this is the issue: I’m 32 and after 5 years as a full time diving instructor I decided to stop my diving career and spend more time at home…. I decided to choose a “drier” life. The reason? In many ways, you can say I was BORED of diving in the same place, in the same area, with the same people…  believe me you get scuba-bored once you do 500 dives in the same location. That’s why yesterday was such a special day. Location: My same old local dive site. Dive time: 30 minutes Depth: no more than 8 meters. Special Encounters: None. Visibility: Below Average Level of Satisfaction: Extremely High. So what made my dive so exciting? Well, a new gadget that I got in the mail in the last days. Ladies and Gentlemen, divers and Scuba Jedi readers… meet the Liquid Image Scuba Series HD320. The idea [...]

So today is my Scuba B-day….

Well, in fact it is my B-day today… gosh I’m 32…  that’s why I decided to write a post about my personal  5 scuba diving products I  may want to add to my “Birth Day Scuba Wish list” .  My list is not a list of  “conventional scuba diving products” like BCD’s or Regulators…  this year I wanted something different, something original, that’s why I decided to do a bit of research for the coolest scuba diving gadgets out there. So here we go: Gabriel’s top 5 scuba products to add to my Birthday Wish List 1. The first  product on my list is such a simple, practical and logical object to have… that I don’t really know yet, if this is a brilliant idea, (or simply-plain silly), dear readers, please meet the  “Scuba Sight ” or in another words, a Scuba Mirror, once again the idea is so simple [...]

Henderson Hyperstretch Wetsuit

My drysuit seals finally saw their last dive, so I had to go back to a wetsuit for a while. I have a bunch of them to choose from, but I figured I might treat myself to something new. I picked up a Henderson Hyperstretch 7mm jumpsuit for about $280 and a 5mm hyperstretch core warmer for about $150. I have to say it was worth it! Most of my other suits all fit differently in one way or another.  A couple of them fit well in some places and were tight in other places. This is the best fitting suit I have ever owned. It’s like the perfect fit all over because of the hyperstretch material. It is also the easiest suit to put on or take off, whether you are wet or dry. You know there is nothing worse than pulling and tugging on a wetsuit to get [...]

Used Scuba Gear “To Buy or Not To Buy”

As a scuba instructor, I always have students wanting to know “What’s wrong with buying used scuba gear?” I try to approach this delicately. When buying from a dive shop you have to be certified to purchase all primary equipment (bcd, regulators, tanks, etc.) but now a days with eBay and all the local classified ad venues, it’s just to easy to pick up a full set of gear pretty cheap with no diving certification. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes you can find a good deal on good used equipment, but you have to be careful. First of all, you should wait until after you have some knowledge about what you are looking at when buying scuba gear. That’s part of the basics in the open water class. I occasionally have a student or two who will bring in their “Great” find and ask me what I think of the [...]

Spare Air Review. Well not really…

A few years ago, I was a very small fish in a very big pond, and I tried to contact Spare Air interested in reviewing their product. I was just starting a different scuba diving website and I was trying to create quality content about different products. So I though.. hey! for sure the nice people of Spare Air will allowed me to test one of their amazing-ultra-life-saving-products… ! WRONG! Wrong, wrong, wrong. Spare Air, barely paid me attention…so I tried to contact them a few more times. I never got any replied from them, that’s why I decided to purchase my own amazing-life-saving-spare-air-mini-tiny-tank… . The result? Well, check the video below… and smile, sometimes is good to have a scuba laugh. And to the guys of Spare Air: Thank god for Spare Air.
